Philips has launched its OneChef appliance in India as LPG shortages disrupt household cooking. Triggered by geopolitical tensions and supply chain constraints, the crisis is pushing consumers towards electric alternatives. The launch highlights a broader shift in cooking habits, with multifunctional electric appliances emerging as practical solutions in uncertain energy conditions.

As Indian households confront an increasingly uncertain supply of cooking gas, Philips has introduced its latest all-in-one kitchen appliance, OneChef, positioning it as a future-ready solution for a rapidly changing domestic landscape. The company maintains that the launch is not linked to current events, yet the timing has inevitably drawn attention as the country navigates a deepening LPG crisis.

The disruption stems largely from escalating tensions in West Asia, particularly the ongoing conflict between the United States and Iran. The geopolitical fallout has severely impacted the Strait of Hormuz, a narrow but critical maritime corridor through which nearly 90 per cent of India’s LPG imports typically pass. With blockades and heightened security risks constraining shipping movements, India’s energy supply chains have come under visible strain.

For millions of Indian households reliant on subsidised LPG cylinders, the consequences have been immediate and tangible. Delays in cylinder deliveries have become commonplace, while refill costs have climbed due to the need for alternative sourcing from more distant and expensive markets. In response, the government has prioritised domestic consumption and initiated rationing measures, attempting to cushion the impact on vulnerable households while managing limited supplies.

Against this backdrop, the introduction of OneChef appears to align closely with an emerging consumer need. Electric cooking solutions, once seen as supplementary or aspirational, are now gaining traction as practical alternatives. Induction cooktops, electric pressure cookers, and multifunctional appliances are witnessing renewed interest, driven not just by convenience but by necessity.

Philips’ OneChef enters this evolving ecosystem as a device designed to consolidate multiple cooking functions into a single unit. By reducing dependence on LPG and offering versatility across cooking styles, such appliances cater to urban consumers seeking efficiency as well as to households exploring backup solutions in the face of supply disruptions. The company’s messaging around “future-ready kitchens” resonates more strongly in the current climate, where energy reliability has become a central concern.

Industry observers suggest that crises of this nature often act as inflection points for behavioural change. Much like earlier shifts towards digital payments or renewable energy adoption, the present LPG shortage could accelerate a transition towards electric cooking infrastructure in India. While affordability, electricity access, and cultural cooking preferences remain factors influencing adoption, the urgency created by supply instability is likely to reshape consumer attitudes.

Retail trends are already beginning to reflect this shift. Appliance stores and e-commerce platforms have reported increased enquiries for electric cooking devices, with consumers seeking both standalone induction units and integrated solutions like OneChef. The appeal lies not only in reducing dependence on LPG but also in the promise of consistent availability and predictable operating costs.

However, the transition is not without its challenges. Electricity tariffs, power reliability in semi-urban and rural regions, and the initial cost of appliances could limit widespread adoption in the short term. Moreover, traditional cooking practices in India, deeply rooted in the use of flame-based methods, may slow the pace of change despite the current pressures.

Even so, the convergence of geopolitical instability and domestic energy demand is forcing a reassessment of long-held habits. What was once a gradual shift towards modern kitchen technologies is now being accelerated by necessity. In this context, Philips’ OneChef is less a standalone product launch and more a reflection of a broader transition underway in Indian kitchens.

Whether the LPG crisis proves temporary or signals a longer-term structural challenge, its immediate impact is already visible in how consumers are thinking about cooking. As households adapt to uncertainty, the rise of electric kitchens may move from possibility to inevitability, reshaping not just appliances but the very rhythms of daily life.

Nissan’s latest X-Trail and Rogue Hybrid e-POWER models redefine hybrid driving by delivering a fully electric drive experience without plug-in charging. Combining efficiency, responsive performance and advanced all-wheel control, the technology reflects the company’s growing commitment to practical electrification and intelligent mobility for everyday drivers.

For decades, the automotive industry has framed electrification as a compromise between performance, practicality and infrastructure. With the unveiling of the all-new Nissan X-Trail and Rogue Hybrid e-POWER, Nissan is attempting to redraw those boundaries, offering a system that promises the immediacy of electric driving without the anxieties often associated with it.

At the core of this new chapter lies a deceptively simple proposition: an electric car that never needs to be plugged in. Unlike conventional hybrids, where both engine and motor can drive the wheels, the e-POWER system ensures that the wheels are powered exclusively by electric motors. The petrol engine, rather than propelling the vehicle, acts solely as a generator, producing electricity to charge the battery when required. The result is a driving experience that feels distinctly electric—smooth, quiet and responsive—yet retains the convenience of refuelling at a petrol station.

This approach fundamentally alters the relationship between driver and machine. With no gearbox and no traditional gear changes, the system eliminates the familiar but often intrusive sensations of gear hunting and shifting. Instead, power delivery remains seamless, with a consistent output of 157 kilowatts, or 210 horsepower, available across varying driving conditions. Early users report impressive efficiency figures, with fuel consumption hovering around five litres per 100 kilometres, underscoring the system’s practical appeal.

Central to the refinement of the driving experience is regenerative braking, a feature increasingly common in electrified vehicles but particularly well integrated here. As the car decelerates, kinetic energy that would otherwise dissipate as heat is captured and converted into electrical energy, replenishing the battery. The process is designed to be linear and smooth, enhancing driver confidence while contributing to overall efficiency.

The engineering behind the e-POWER system reflects a careful balancing act between innovation and familiarity. The 1.5-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine is equipped with forced air induction via a turbocharger, allowing it to deliver the performance characteristics of a larger engine while maintaining the efficiency benefits of a smaller unit. By compressing incoming air, the turbocharger increases the engine’s power output without significantly increasing fuel consumption, effectively offering what engineers often describe as “downsized performance”.

Further enhancing this system is a water-to-air intercooler, a component that ensures the compressed air entering the engine remains at an optimal temperature. Cooler air is denser, allowing for more efficient combustion and improved performance, particularly under demanding conditions such as high-speed driving or steep inclines. Compared to traditional air-to-air systems, the water-to-air configuration offers greater consistency, a factor that becomes increasingly important in varied climates and driving scenarios.

Perhaps the most striking innovation, however, lies in Nissan’s e-4ORCE technology, an all-wheel-drive system that operates entirely through electric control. Traditional four-wheel-drive systems rely on mechanical components such as clutches and differentials, which inherently introduce delays in response time. In contrast, e-4ORCE can adjust torque distribution and braking force up to 10,000 times faster, making continuous micro-adjustments that are imperceptible to the driver but crucial for maintaining stability and control.

This rapid responsiveness is particularly significant in challenging driving conditions, such as wet or uneven surfaces, where traction can change in an instant. By reacting almost instantaneously, the system not only enhances safety but also contributes to a more composed and confident driving experience. It is a clear indication of how electrification can extend beyond efficiency to redefine vehicle dynamics.

The broader significance of the X-Trail and Rogue Hybrid e-POWER extends beyond their technical specifications. They represent a strategic step in Nissan’s vision of “intelligent mobility”, a concept that seeks to integrate electrification, connectivity and advanced control systems into vehicles designed for everyday use. Rather than positioning electric vehicles as niche or aspirational products, the company appears intent on making them accessible and practical for a wider audience.

In markets such as the United States, where the Rogue Hybrid e-POWER is set to make its debut, this approach could prove particularly influential. Infrastructure limitations and consumer concerns around charging have often slowed the adoption of fully electric vehicles. By offering an electrified driving experience without the need for external charging, Nissan may have found a way to bridge the gap between conventional and fully electric mobility.

The timing of this launch is also notable. As governments and manufacturers worldwide intensify their focus on reducing emissions, hybrid technologies are increasingly seen as a transitional solution. However, Nissan’s e-POWER system challenges this notion by presenting itself not merely as a stepping stone, but as a distinct and potentially enduring approach to electrification.

For drivers, the appeal lies in its simplicity. There is no need to adapt to new routines or infrastructure, yet the benefits of electric driving—instant torque, quiet operation and improved efficiency—are readily apparent. It is an approach that aligns closely with real-world usage patterns, particularly in regions where charging networks are still developing.

Ultimately, the all-new X-Trail and Rogue Hybrid e-POWER reflect a broader shift in how the automotive industry is thinking about electrification. Rather than pursuing a one-size-fits-all solution, manufacturers are exploring diverse pathways that cater to different markets and consumer needs. In this context, Nissan’s latest offering stands out as a thoughtful and pragmatic response to the challenges of modern mobility.

Whether it will redefine the trajectory of hybrid technology remains to be seen. Yet, in blending the immediacy of electric drive with the familiarity of petrol refuelling, Nissan has created a compelling proposition—one that may resonate with drivers seeking a seamless transition into the electrified future.

Hyundai Australia has launched the Elexio SUV alongside a playful campaign by Innocean to celebrate 35 years of EV innovation. The ‘Looooooong Campaign’ dramatises Hyundai’s enduring electric journey through creative storytelling, contextual media placements, and ultra-wide executions, reinforcing the brand’s pioneering role in shaping Australia’s electric mobility landscape.

Hyundai Australia has unveiled its latest mid-sized SUV, the Elexio, with a campaign that celebrates 35 years of electric vehicle innovation. Partnering with Innocean Australia, the brand has chosen a humorous and distinctive approach to highlight its long-standing commitment to electric mobility, blending creative storytelling with strategic media execution.

The campaign, aptly titled the ‘Looooooong Campaign’, dramatises Hyundai’s rich EV pedigree by stretching every touchpoint into elongated narratives. At the heart of the campaign is a film featuring two best friends, where one explains—at great length—why they chose the Hyundai Elexio. The deliberately drawn-out explanation becomes a metaphor for Hyundai’s enduring journey in EVs, underscoring the brand’s longevity in the sector.

This central idea was extended across social platforms, where the friends’ story was made “impossibly longer”, ensuring the humour and message resonated with digital audiences. By weaving together creative and media, Innocean’s integrated team ensured the campaign achieved maximum impact, positioning Hyundai as both innovative and relatable.

The media strategy was particularly notable for its contextual placements. Petrol stations in areas with strong EV receptivity were targeted, capturing consumers at moments when rising fuel prices might prompt them to consider an electric alternative. This clever positioning reinforced the relevance of Hyundai’s EV offering, making the campaign not just creative but strategically incisive.

The elongated theme was further amplified through outdoor advertising. Consecutive motorway sites and street furniture panels carried the stretched ‘loooooooong’ executions, creating visual impact that mirrored the campaign’s central idea. Even notoriously challenging sports stadium hoardings were transformed into ultra-wide formats, debuting to AFL fans on 7 March 2026. These placements demonstrated both creative ingenuity and media dexterity, ensuring the campaign stood out in crowded environments.

By celebrating 35 years of EV innovation, Hyundai is not only marking a milestone but also reinforcing its leadership in the electric mobility space. The Elexio SUV embodies this legacy, offering consumers a tangible product that reflects decades of progress. The campaign’s playful tone, combined with its strategic sharpness, positions Hyundai as a brand that understands both the emotional and practical dimensions of consumer decision-making.

Ultimately, the ‘Looooooong Campaign’ is more than a marketing initiative; it is a statement of heritage and ambition. By blending humour, creativity, and contextual media, Hyundai and Innocean have crafted a campaign that resonates with audiences while celebrating a significant chapter in automotive history. It underscores Hyundai’s role as a pioneer in EV innovation and signals its intent to continue shaping the future of sustainable mobility.

HeyGen’s Avatar V is a breakthrough AI avatar generator that creates lifelike digital twins from a 15-second webcam recording. With unmatched character consistency, natural gestures, and lip-sync accuracy across 175+ languages, it enables scalable video production for business, education, and marketing—transforming how humans communicate and create in the digital era.

In the fast-evolving world of artificial intelligence, HeyGen’s launch of Avatar V signals a decisive leap forward in how humans can replicate themselves digitally. Unlike earlier avatar models that relied on static photos or limited video training, Avatar V introduces a system capable of capturing not just appearance but the subtleties of motion, gesture, and micro-expression. The result is a digital twin that moves, sounds, and performs with uncanny realism, erasing the boundary between human and machine-generated video.

At its core, Avatar V is built on the principle of character consistency. This means that once trained, the avatar maintains a coherent identity across every video, regardless of length, background, or angle. Whether delivering a 30-second sales pitch or a 10-minute training module, the avatar preserves the same facial expressions, lip-sync accuracy, and natural gestures. This consistency solves the long-standing problem of “identity drift,” where avatars gradually lose resemblance to their source over extended use.

The process is remarkably simple. A user records a 15-second clip on a standard webcam, with no need for professional lighting or studio equipment. From this short input, Avatar V constructs a temporally grounded identity embedding, trained on over 10 million data points. This embedding captures lip geometry, facial silhouette, and expression transitions, ensuring that the avatar remains stable across diverse scenarios. Once trained, the avatar can be deployed in any setting—an office, a studio, or even a virtual outdoor space—without further recording.

The implications are profound. For businesses, Avatar V offers scalable solutions in training and onboarding, allowing companies to build entire libraries of instructional videos without repeated filming. In sales enablement, a single recording can be personalised for countless prospects, maintaining credibility and presence. For global communication, the model supports over 175 languages and dialects, with phoneme-level lip-sync accuracy ensuring that messages resonate authentically across cultures. Executives can deliver updates, product launches, or investor briefings without being tethered to recording schedules, while thought leaders can publish content consistently without the friction of studio production.

Technically, Avatar V represents a leap from its predecessor, Avatar IV. While Avatar IV produced recognisable but imperfect outputs, Avatar V achieves indistinguishable realism. The difference lies in its architecture: instead of conditioning on a single frame, Avatar V processes full video context, extracting richer identity signals and eliminating drift. This enables stable performance even in long-form videos exceeding 30 minutes, a feat that earlier models struggled to achieve.

The training pipeline itself is a three-stage process. First, the model learns to replicate facial appearance within the same scene. Next, it undergoes cross-scene fine-tuning, bridging gaps between different backgrounds and lighting conditions. Finally, reinforcement learning with human-centric reward signals maximises identity similarity, ensuring that the avatar mirrors the real person as closely as possible. This layered approach guarantees robustness across diverse environments and use cases.

Beyond technical sophistication, Avatar V embodies a cultural shift in how humans engage with digital media. It democratises professional-grade video production, removing barriers of cost, equipment, and expertise. A single webcam recording can now yield unlimited content, empowering individuals and organisations to communicate at scale. For educators, this means creating entire course modules with consistent delivery. For marketers, it means transforming written campaigns into video-first messaging. For creatives, it opens avenues for storytelling where the line between reality and simulation blurs.

Yet, the innovation also raises questions. As avatars become indistinguishable from their human counterparts, issues of authenticity, consent, and representation will demand careful navigation. The ability to replicate oneself across languages and contexts is powerful, but it also necessitates safeguards to prevent misuse. HeyGen positions Avatar V as a tool for empowerment, but its societal impact will depend on how responsibly it is adopted.

In essence, Avatar V is not just another AI product—it is a redefinition of identity in the digital age. By capturing the nuances of human presence and translating them into endlessly adaptable avatars, HeyGen has created a platform that could reshape industries from education to marketing, from corporate communication to creative storytelling. The promise is clear: one recording, infinite possibilities. The challenge lies in ensuring that this new frontier of digital selfhood enhances human connection rather than diluting it.

Expected to generate 1,250 MWh annually, the project will meet 80% of LSEG’s daytime electricity needs, cutting carbon emissions by 850 tonnes each year.

Hayleys Solar, Sri Lanka’s leading solar solutions provider, has marked a significant milestone in the country’s corporate renewable energy sector with the completion of an 800kW rooftop installation for the London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG). Delivered in just two months, the project spans six buildings and incorporates 1,412 high-efficiency solar panels.

The system is projected to generate 1,250 MWh of clean energy annually, supplying nearly 80% of LSEG’s daytime electricity requirements. This achievement translates into a reduction of approximately 850 tonnes of carbon emissions each year, equivalent to removing 185 petrol-powered cars from the road or planting more than 14,000 mature trees.

The installation demanded complex engineering, including extensive underground cabling across an active corporate site. Hayleys Solar executed the project with a zero-accident record, maintaining rigorous safety and operational standards throughout.

Roshane Perera, Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of Hayleys Solar, emphasised the importance of partnerships with environmentally conscious organisations in driving Sri Lanka’s transition to sustainable energy. “We are grateful to LSEG for placing their trust in Hayleys Solar. This project is about providing reliable, sustainable energy solutions that enable Sri Lankan businesses to compete confidently on the global stage with a reduced carbon footprint,” he said.

Feroz Cader, Group Director LSEG, Site Lead, Malabe, highlighted the organisation’s commitment to sustainability. “As one of the world’s leading providers of financial markets infrastructure, delivering financial data, analytics, news and index across over 170 countries, LSEG takes its environmental responsibilities seriously. This collaboration with Hayleys Solar marks a significant step in our ongoing commitment to sustainability,” he noted.

The partnership between Hayleys Solar and LSEG underscores the growing role of renewable energy in Sri Lanka’s corporate landscape. It not only demonstrates the feasibility of large-scale solar adoption but also sets a benchmark for future projects aimed at reducing environmental impact while strengthening business competitiveness.
